Dispensary

At our Ellesmere Health Centre site we have a dispensary (open Monday – Friday, 8am – 6pm), allowing eligible patients to collect their medication at the practice. We also offer a home delivery service free of charge for patients unable to collect their medications.

The dispensing service is available only to those patients who live more than one mile radius from a Pharmacy, as the crow flies, and who do not live in Wales. Current regulations do not allow us to make dispensary services available to our patients who live within Ellesmere Town.

If you reside outside of Ellesmere town and wish to make use of the practice dispensary, please do contact the practice to sign up.

Ordering repeat prescriptions

The quickest way to order your repeat prescription is via your NHS account: you can access this on your phone via the NHS app and you can easily provide ID within the app to view and order your prescriptions. You can also access your NHS account online: https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-app/account/.

Note the practice does not accept paper prescription requests via the dispensary. To order your repeat prescription please call 01691 881323. The first time you call the service you will be requested to create your own unique pin which you will need to keep safe as you will need it each time you call the service. If you have any problems with the telephone ordering service, then please call the practice and one of our receptionists will be available to help you.

Please watch the video below for a step-by-step guide on how to use our telephone system to order your repeat prescription. When prompted, you will need to enter:

  • Your date of birth, followed by the * key
  • Your registered telephone number, followed by the * key
  • Your 6-digit PIN

The dispensary prescription turnaround time is 4 working days, this means you need to order your medication 4 days before you are due to run out. If we have your mobile number, the team will text you to inform you of when your medication is ready to collect.

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your nominated pharmacy can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription. The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

What to do with old medicines

Take it to your nominated pharmacy. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet. Note that sharps need to be presented in a sealed sharp’s box.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • coughs
  • colds
  • sore throats
  • tummy trouble
  • aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment. Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
