Prescriptions
Dispensary
At our Ellesmere site we have a dispensary, allowing eligible patients to collect their medication at the practice. We also offer a home delivery service free of charge for patients unable to collect their medications.
The dispensing service is available only to those patients who live more than one mile radius from a Pharmacy, as the crow flies, and who do not live in Wales. Current regulations do not allow us to make dispensary services available to our patients who live within Ellesmere Town.
The dispensary prescription turnaround time is 4 working days, this means you need to order your medication 4 days before you are due to run out. If we have your mobile number, the team will text you to inform you of when your medication is ready to collect.
If you reside outside of Ellesmere town and wish to make use of the practice dispensary, please do contact the practice to sign up.
Repeat Prescriptions
Patients on regular prescriptions will find that a list of those medicines will appear attached to the prescription to enable them to obtain repeat prescriptions in between routine checks without needing to see the doctor or nurse.
Please do give us 4 working days for all repeat prescriptions. ‘Same day’ requests cannot often be processed in time.

Prescription Fees
Help with NHS costs
In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:
- those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
- those who are age exempt
- those with certain medical conditions
- More information is available at NHS Choices
NHS Charges
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
- Prescription (per item): £9.90
- 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £114.50 for 12 months (or 10 Direct Debit instalments of £11.45)
- 3-month PPC: £32.05
- A PPC for hormone replacement therapy (HRT) covers an unlimited number of some HRT medicines for 12 months, including if they’re prescribed for something other than menopause symptoms. Find out more about the HRT PPC from the NHS Business Services Authority website.
- Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) PPC costs £19.80 and will save you money if you need more than 2 prescribed qualifying HRT items in a year
If you will have to pay for three or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
